HOW TO QUIT ADDICTIONS

By Peace Wobo
According to English Dictionary, Addiction is a habit or practice that damages, jeopardizes or shortens one's life but when ceased causes trauma.
Addictions are not easy to let go because they have become part of the person. Addictions are lifestyles that one can't do without even when they don't want to do it,  they  just  find themselves doing it. That's how selfish or strong the flesh is, once it's attached to something evil, it will never want to let go. But why doesn't it become addicted to praying, studying the word and evangelising? No matter how on fire you are, you still need your spirit to subdue the flesh on a daily basis. The flesh can never lead you to pray or to  do anything that will benefit the spirit man. The flesh is so selfish.

Whenever you want to quit an addiction. First and foremost, find out the reason behind your addiction. Ask yourself "Why are my doing this"? "What makes me do this"? What do  I benefit or lose from doing this? If you can answer yourself sincerely, you will have the right answer which is the reason for your addiction (the root of the matter), then you can now work on yourself. You can't change anything from the surface, you must reach the root cause of that thing to be able to cure it or get rid of it. Make up your mind to deal with it, determine in your heart. Daniel 8 "But Daniel determined in his heart that he would not defile himself by [eating his portion of] the king’s rich and dainty food or by [drinking] the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might [be allowed] not to defile himself".
Know that you cannot help yourself, only God can.
Ask the Lord to deliver you, speak with a counsellor, your parents, or pastor. Stay away from things that will lead you to it again and your deliverance will take place.

Happy New Month!
