When Men of the Ancients Fail

Jaazaniah was a Rechabite of which the LORD God commended in the book of Jeremiah for obeying their father's (Jonadab) command and for keeping his precepts. (See Jeremiah 35:1-4;18-19). It is expected that after this commendation from the LORD God and a promise that Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a son to stand before God forever; that Jaazaniah having lived long enough, knowing the Word of God and His promises should live an examplary life for the younger generation to follow but Jaazaniah was found been among the 70 men of the ancients who did abominable things in secret to pollute God's sanctuary. They raised and worshipped images of creeping things, beasts and all form of idols. In Ezekiel 8:10-12 10 "So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about.
11 And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.
12 Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, the Lord seeth us not; the Lord hath forsaken the earth". In verse 11; the Bible was intentional to mention Jaazaniah because he was a notable figure, one whom God expected to have said NO! to the evil, one whom God trusted that he would not be found committing such but he was seem in the midst of them. What a shame! What a disappointment to God, to his father and to the entire Rechabites generation. He was the oldest, that's why even in the book of Jeremiah his name was mentioned as they did not do contrary to their father's command even though a man of God presented wine to them. God was proud of them and used them as a reference point to the children of Israel to consider how the Rechabites kept to their father's instructions after years and this same Jaazaniah that was a point of recommendation became a point of sin, shame and abomination.

This is similar to to what is happening in the world today, especially in Africa where the ancient men who ought to live exemplary life for the younger generation to follow are rather the ones leaving bad examples which has greatly affected the society at large. That's why the system is failing, the younger generation has not really seen good example to follow and has become wicked and selfish, evil everywhere because the ancient men have failed to leave out good example. It therefore calls for a cry for help, only God can deliver this nation, but first of all, there must be a willingness to change, we must cry for help, we must be transformed, we must repent and change our mindset.

Father, forgive us and heal our land. Help me to be a patriotic citizen.

Keep me Lord, help me to always remain faithful.

Father, may it not be that after I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

May my life never bring You shame. Take away anything that will make me bring shame to Your name in Jesus name, Amen!
