MEET MALACHI

By Peace Wobo
Do you know that having a good introduction of a book will help you understand the message it conveys better?
Peaceable Peace is always here to serve you.
The book of Malachi is named after it's author. The name Malachi means "my messenger". Malachi's prophesy came after the people of Judah returned from Babylonian exile around 430BC. He was a contemporary of Haggai and Zechariah. He confronted the people of Judah with their sins of dishonouring God through false and profane worship (1:6; 2:9, 11). The book used a unique literary style of question and answer. The book contains some twenty-six questions. The message of Malachi is still very relevant to Christians today. It is a call to be wary of insincere and hypocritical worship because such worship will attract only God's judgment rather than blessing (cf. John 4:24). The book also points to the coming of the Messiah (Jesus Christ) and the forerunner of the Messiah (3:1 and 4:5), whom the Gospel writers identified as John the Baptist.
