Jeremiah 4:30 “And when thou are spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shall thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life’’.
The above Scripture gave me a better understanding of Proverbs 31:30 which says “Favour is deceitful, and beautiful is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised”.
This is a mystery! Though in Jeremiah chapter 4, God was talking about the destruction of a land (Judah). God revealed His mind to Jeremiah His Prophet regarding the people of Judah but verse 30 made Proverbs 31:30 clearer to me. True beauty is not in outward good looks but in godly lifestyle and character.
Some people feel that they can attract husbands to themselves by the amount of make-up and ornaments they deck themselves with. It is true that men are attracted by what they see and they can easily fall through what they see but there is an inner beauty that make-up and ornaments cannot give, it comes from God by godly character. No matter the amount of make-up and ornaments you deck yourself with, it is in vain if God is not pleased with you. Verse 30b of Jeremiah 4 says “in vain shall thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life’’. Did you see that? It is all in vain when God does not find pleasure in you.
Let’s be honest, is this not happening today? Don’t we see and hear of couples killing each other? They were once attracted to each other and promised themselves heaven and earth but the favour they found in each other has been deceitful and the beauty is no more there so they’ve become worst enemies.
Only God can sustain your marriage, only Him can give you a happy home. Make your ways right with God and enjoy a peaceful life and home. Make-up covers nothing, it is vain. God wants to give you inner beauty that no ornament made by man can give.
