Going through the Book of Mark Chapter 9 from verse 14 downwards when Jesus came to meet a great crowd around His nine disciples questioning and disputing with them because He had earlier gone out with three of them.
From that chapter it was discovered that a man had brought his son that was troubled by a foul spirit to the disciples but they could not cast out the demon. At first, I wondered why they couldn't even after being with Jesus for quite a number of time. The moment they saw Jesus they were happy and excited, immediately Jesus addressed the situation, cast out the foul spirit and the boy was healed.

My concern is majorly on the disciples, they later privately asked Jesus why they couldn't cast out the demon and Jesus replied in verse 29 "that this kind cannot be driven out by anything but by prayer and fasting".
From what I understand, Jesus was not saying that you must be fasting and praying before you can cast out demon, as in you cannot only cast out demons only when you are fasting and praying but Jesus was trying to let them know that there is a building and manifestation of power made available to the Believer at the place of Fasting and Prayer. They lacked this because they are yet to understand what it means to fast and pray. They can't do certain things until they are committed to fasting and prayer. So, we must know that to succeed as Christians, we must learn how to fast and pray. We cannot cast out demons and address some situations in our life if we don't understand the importance of fasting and prayer in a Christian's life.
