Permit to share the story of what really happened in the Garden of Eden and the reason behind the fall of man.
It was just done on me that the devil really played a smart one on Eve using what she already was as a tool to lead her astray and unfortunately she fell woefully.
The Devil said to her, you will not surely die, for God knows that the day you eat that fruit you will be like Him knowing good and evil.
Now, let me point out something at creation, when God wanted to create man He said let us make man in our own image, after our likeness. And in the image of God created He them, male and female. Let's see Genesis 1:26-27 and Genesis 3:5
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
3:5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil".
God intentionally reserved the knowledge of the tree from man knowing that even though we are made in His likeness we can't be exactly like Him. We know that a child can look like his father, behave like his father but he can't be exactly like his father in some areas for there must be some characteristics differentiating the father from the son. God knew that man won't be able to handle the knowledge of the tree without becoming so evil and we can see it from all the various evil being carried out by man after the fall and even today, God even later regretted for creating man and this was after the fall of man.
If the fall hadn't been, then evil wouldn't have been in man and God would never have regretted for creating man. Man lost the likeness of God which he already had as a result of sin. We must therefore thank God for Jesus, Who came to restore us to the likeness and image of God.
Now, let's consider the dictionary meaning of like and likeness.
Like as an adjective: (of a person or thing) having similar qualities or characteristics to another person or thing.
Likeness as a noun: the fact or quality of being alike; resemblance.
the semblance, guise, or outward appearance of.
"humans are described as being made in God's likeness" a portrait or representation.
Questions to ponder:
If God made man in His likeness why then was Eve deceived when the devil told her you would become like God when she was already like God? Imagine! Would I call it ignorance or negligence or would I say she was excessively inquisitive, perhaps she had always wanted to know more than her father and she felt her father had cheated them by instructing them not to eat the fruit of the tree. Either way, the devil got Eve because she must have secretly been desiring that fruit, the devil can't entice you with something you are not attracted to. The moment man fell, he instantly lost the likeness of God which he had initially. That's how it is with Christians who sin, they know it's a sin, they know what the Bible has said about it because Eve knew what God had said about the fruit but like Eve, we always try to look for excuses to carry out our selfish desires resulting in willful sin thereby grieving the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we call the attention of the devil to drag our attention to something we are attracted to then we say it's the work of the devil. All join sha!
Eve knew the word of God yet she disobeyed!
That's what we see everywhere today!
Hope you and I won't be another Eve in the service of His kingdom?
